Community Collaboration
I have ample experience bringing diverse people together towards a common goal. I am available to support, design, lead, and facilitate community collaboration projects. Below are two sample projects.
women walking tall COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
I served as musician and stilt walker in Women Walking Tall, a stilt-dancing troupe started by Terry Sendgraff in Oakland, CA. We taught hundreds and women and girls to stiltwalk , stiltdance, and build their own stilts. Our free outdoor community performances inspired creativity among performers, from creating costumes to choreographing stilt dancing, which attracted large audiences everywhere.
Here I am working on a 22 foot sculpture of Mother Earth as part of an outdoor set design for Women Walking Tall stilt troupe, which led to a Creative Arts Fellowship from the City of Oakland. I made her body (partially shown) with fabrics from all over the world. I also served as one of the main musicians for Women Walking Tall, creating large-scale instruments for stilt musicians, including an 8 foot rainstick on a turnstile.
Envision a New world ART project
Envision a New World was led by Elizabeth Ramirez and myself. Community members created boxes with their visions of a hopeful future. The boxes were strung together to form an arch that became a symbolic threshold for our collective hopes and dreams.
